OpenAI-compatible model checks

OpenAI-Compatible Model API Checks

Start with the model ID your SDK, Cursor, Codex CLI or gateway will actually send, then compare official API docs, OpenAI-compatible routes, global aggregators, Chinese model platforms and third-party relays. This page is for model ID and route verification, not live pricing or uptime claims.

Model ID and Pricing Checks

Gateway model lists are useful only when they expose the exact model ID, provider route, context window and token pricing. Treat family names such as Claude Sonnet or GPT/Codex as starting points, then verify the concrete model ID your tool will send.

Record before testing

  • Check the official model page first, then compare gateway model IDs against the official family name.
  • Confirm whether pricing is for the direct provider, a gateway route, a BYOK route or a specific upstream provider.
  • Separate input, output, cache read/write, image, audio and long-context pricing before comparing providers.
  • Record context window, streaming support, tool-call behavior and rate limits because these can vary by route.
  • Do not rely on a family label alone; the same model name can map to different providers, versions or pricing tiers.

OpenAI-Compatible Model API Checks

For OpenAI SDK-compatible tools, a model page is useful only when it helps you verify the exact model ID, `/v1/models` discovery behavior, supported endpoints, provider route and token pricing basis before a test request.

  • Use `/v1/models` or the provider's model catalog to confirm the concrete model ID your SDK or editor will send.
  • Separate endpoint support: chat completions, responses, embeddings, images and rerank APIs may not share the same compatibility surface.
  • Record whether the route is direct official API, gateway-hosted, BYOK, fallback-routed or provider-specific.
  • Compare pricing from the official model page and the gateway route because cache, long context, media and failed requests can be billed differently.

Common model API search intents

Recent queries for this page are less about a generic model list and more about exact docs, route shape and model IDs. Use these checks before choosing a gateway or SDK route.

  • For Zhipu AI or GLM OpenAI-compatible API docs, start from the GLM model card and verify the official docs link before trusting a relay route.
  • For GPT or Codex model IDs, compare OpenAI's official model docs with the exact ID exposed by a gateway, then test the endpoint shape separately.
  • For routing multiple AI models through one API, check whether the gateway publishes model discovery, provider routes, fallback rules and per-route pricing.
  • For Chinese AI API options such as Qwen, GLM, Kimi or Yi, keep official docs and gateway model catalogs side by side so translated family names do not hide the real model ID.

Model checks FAQ

Is a gateway model list the same as official model availability?

No. A gateway model list shows what that gateway currently exposes. Always compare the concrete model ID, upstream provider, context window and pricing against official model documentation before using it.

Why does the same model have different prices across gateways?

Prices can differ because gateways route through different upstream providers, add or remove markup, support BYOK routes, or bill cache, long context and media tokens differently.

What should I save before testing a model through a relay?

Save the model ID, provider route, pricing page, request timestamp, token counts, error behavior and billing screenshot. Those records help detect pricing changes or unexpected provider routing.
